Atlas of Impunity

Eurasia Group and Chicago Council of Global Affairs published Atlas of Impunity during the recent Munich Security Conference. The Atlas is “a comprehensive index which tracks the abuse of power across five key societal dimensions – unaccountable governance, abuse of human rights, conflict, economic exploitation. and environmental degradation.” (1) The five countries with lowest impunity score are Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany. USA and Israel are closer to the median compared to the countries with least impunity. USA and Israel rank higher on the impunity than, for example, Hungary or Poland. The report states that also other world’s great regional powers – such as China, Russia, Brazil, India and Iran – “perform relatively poorly compared to economic and geographic peers”. (2)
